About mmorsel

mmorsel for LOTRO was created by long-time LOTRO players, Tawariel and Lunatuna. While our goal was to provide high-quality and up-to-date resources for LOTRO players, neither of us play LOTRO anymore.

Sadly, this means the resources on this site are no longer being maintained. All the articles and tools have publish dates, and will be allowed to remain up until they do more harm than good. For example, a small percentage of the data in the TP Finder tool is inaccurate, but not so much that it's time to take it down. If you see a resource that you feel is ready for a retirement, send an email to mmorselguides@gmail.com.

We want to thank our wonderful community for the fantastic support you've given us over the past two years. Be safe on your journeys through Middle-earth!

This is one of the best guides I've come across - thank you for putting in so much time. As a somewhat newish player, I found it very useful.

I am so delighted I found this site! It is EXCELLENT! I will be referring all of our kin's "newbies" here for a good overview for all things LOTRO!

Thank you!

this is great - thank you for this, it has proved very useful so far :)

Thanks for the kinds words, Aerynne and Suzita. Suzita I checked out your blog, and really agree with your sentiments on EQ2X. I don't play EQ2 currently, but I might have "dipped in and out", and even subscribed from time to time, if they'd done it more like LOTRO F2P.

My new home page! This site is wonderful. I've recently started playing LotRO. Not only does mmorsel help me understand my new world, it's nice to look at, and the writing is entertaining. Thank you both for the love you've poured into this.

This is by far the best resource site for LOTRO. I will be referring everyone here for information; especially once the F2P goes live. There will be a lot of new people asking questions, and you have the answers here in a very pleasant way. Thank you!

This is a fantastic site, which has as you say quality throughout. The tools you have developed are also of very high quality. This site has been passed to all my playing friends. Please keep up the great work you are doing here.

I am very impressed with all the thought, content, and work that you have put into this site. Given that I am going to start messing around in Lord of the Rings Online, I was trying to find as much info as I could, and this site delivers.

I fully intend to use this site while I play LOTRO! Thanks for all the hard work you have put into this.

The best compiled and thought-out LOTRO specific site I have come across. [LI-Spender is a great concept which I make use of often]
Bookmarked for my personal enjoyment and edification and referenced on our Kinship's website [with a link] as an excellent information source for both new and even veteran players.

I realize how much time and effort must have gone into creating and maintaining this site and it is all very much appreciated!

hey I just wanna point out at the TP Finder page under Bree-Land: The Barrow-downs.

The Dead Spire is 32.1S NOT 30.1S plz correct so others dont pull their hair like I did. you're welcome.

P.S I couldn't find a contact page so I hope you read this comment.

This website is the best LotRO guide that I've come across. Thanks.

Great site! Now with all the new content in the Nov. update, do you plan on updating the various "Leveling Plans" in the Free sections with the additional free content? Guess the "Content by Level Chart - LOTRO Free-to-Play" would need an update too. As a free player, now at level 28 and going strong...

Anonymous said...

You shouuld update the haudith ichidith guide with the levels for the deed (changed in the november update).

Ajay said...

What are the new levels for the deeds for Haudh Iarchith?

Aranedain said...

I've just discovered this site this week. As a new player (< 2 weeks going) it's already become my go-to for helpful info on basically everything. Thanks for all the work you two do!

Lunatuna said...

We've confirmed the new level for each of the HI deeds at 20, but are still trying to confirm Execution of the Wicked. If you know the minimum level for this deed, please share!

Ajay said...

Are the slayer requirements still the same?
Spiders are 200 and then 400?
Wardens are 150 and then 300?
Spirits are 150 and then 300?
(from memory, could be wrong)

Anonymous said...

Wardens 150/300, Spirits 100/200

Anonymous said...

Kudos for adding in the affects of the new free content from Nov. to your site (got to level 32 pretty easily so far).

Houma said...

Wardens and Spiders are 150/300, Spirits are 100/200

Lunatuna said...

Yep - the levels and counts for the HI deeds are correct in TP Finder and Virtue Finder.

Viradan said...

Impressive site... Came here via LOTRO Reporter and glad I did. Speaking as a lowbie F2Per, what location makes up the background? Looks Dwarven.

Anonymous said...

It's Waterworks in the Mines of Moria.

Ajay said...

Random question, but will mmorsel expand to other MMOs? Ultimately dependent on whether both of you play any upcoming MMOs, but just curious.

Lunatuna said...

No plans at this time. Did you have a particular MMO in mind?

Ajay said...

I've been following Star Wars: The Old Republic rather closely. Not sure on when it will be released, tentatively Spring 2011. Looks to be promising!

Hi, just wanted to say this is my favourite site for info about LOTRO. The information is accurate, well written, to the point, and useful. I even like the layout, color scheme, etc. I'm just trying out LOTRO (and I think i'm hooked :P), thank you very much for all the information you have put here.

jacquottefox said...

Does anyone else have a lot of "lag" on this site just scrolling the pages up and down with the scroll bar? I have Steeds of Middle Earth and LotRO forums open in other tabs and they are fine. Maybe it's the popout links on the left that function like the official forums, but this is much worse. I just wanted to give this feedback. Thanks.

Spaz_OL said...

@jacquottefox Yeah, this site doesn't scroll at the same speed as other sites for me. I don't know enough about web programming/design to even guess why that is. And while it kinda bothered me at first, I no longer find it to be a very big deal. But if you were asking to see if others experience the same thing, to make sure it wasn't somehow on your end, well yeah, it's the same for me.

Lunatuna said...

@jacquottefox Can you tell us which browser you use?

Houma said...

I have the same scrolling issues... sometimes. I'm using Chrome.

Jacquotte said...

@Luna I'm using Firefox v3.6.12

Anonymous said...

Thank you a lot! This Homepage is great

Anonymous said...

Is there a print-friendly version of theses pages (i.e., just the central content)? I prefer to print some of the guides/map, but it takes too much space will all the columns...

Ajay said...

Although I wish it were true, Lunatuna doesn't play on Riddermark anymore :(

Ajay said...

mmorsel is still the best guide website out there, in my opinion at least! I believe the info will be up to standards for a long time still. Sad to hear both of you aren't playing LOTRO anymore, did enjoy learning from / playing with both of you. Will you both be able to make minor updates still or basically we'll not be seeing any new content/updates from now on?

Lunatuna said...

While I'm willing to make small updates, the big issue for me is verifying the data before I make the change.

I guess if 2 non-anonymous folks agree, that would be good enough for me.

Fingle said...

Thanks so much for all your time and effort - this site was invaluable to me as a new player (and continues to be). I wish you all the best. Do you have another similar project in the works?

Goldenstar said...

Thank you so much for all that you have done. Your guides are absolutely wonderful and something I use constantly. Good luck in your future endeavors and your work here on LOTRO will be sorely missed!

It's too bad to hear, but understandable. I just want to say thank you for such a quality site and resources, which many have benefited from!

Merric said...

Ah poopstick. :( Will you guys be opening up another mmorsel site for a different game?

Jon Andrist said...

You've been missed for quite some time, I hope enjoy your gaming elsewhere, and stop in from time to time :).. If at some point you do retire the tools, consider passing on the data and back-end materials to someone else willing to maintain it.

Stu said...

Thank you so much for the site, it's a wonderful resource and helping me atm with beginning my search for my Legendary Trait pages :)

Hopefully at some point you will return to the lands of Middle-Earth...at least for a visit ;)

Thanks for all the work you've done! For people just starting out, it is the first and only site I send people to.

Any chance of your LI spender tool being passed on to someone else to maintain? It really is a great resource, as is this whole site. Sad to see it go, but understand that people gonna move on.

I'm pretty busy at my job these days, but I do get a break in the action every few weeks. I'll do my best to keep up with updates to the tools, especially LI Spender and TP Finder (I'm the programmer behind these).

And I do still pop into LOTRO for an hour here and there when I find some time for gamaing, since I own 2 lifetime accounts.

Thanks for the wonderful resource you so lovingly created for the community. It has made my journey through middle-earth more enjoyable and fun.

Through my travels on the web, it is the best resource available - and it would be a huge loss to the community if it faded.

If it would be helpful, I can volunteer funds and time to help maintain your wonderful resource.

Hey guys! Great job and thank you for all your hard work. I hope it was fun for you (if not, you would not do it). Thank you!

Anonymous said...

Just heard that you guys will not be updating the site anymore. I stumbled across this site late in the game, but ever since I found it last year it's been my primary resource for LOTRO information. Your articles and guides are so well written, easy to understand, and concise! Good to know that you'll be leaving stuff up on the site for future reference until it becomes so outdated as to be ineffective.

Best of luck to you both in whereever your gaming takes you, and thanks for a terrific site!

As has been said. The best Lotro guide site by far.

Anything we can do to help keep it going?
If the work could be carried on in some form it would be great.

Finaldeath said...

Bummed to see this site go. This is the only site i have found with non outdated guides and most of all the ONLY site with a good leveling guide. (helped me get out of the evendim hellhole, along with activating my boxed copy of moria earlier than i wanted for the bonus rested xp) The official lotro book thingy is junk imo and try to avoid it whenever i can.

couillon in DC said...

Lunatuna...just adding that on Riddermark when F2P came out, I participated in your organized "Ride to Weathertop" from Thorins Hall. It was great way to start the community going on a new server. Thanks for all the hard work and fun!

Does anyone know why the lottery widget doesn't function anymore? I'm not sure if it's just my problem or what. It used to work for me until 2days ago when it just somehow disappeared. I clicked on the widget to try to activate it but all it does is show a loading 'ring' then it disappears. I even logged off and logged back in, refreshed the page, closed it and opened the page again then logged off & re-logged but nothing works. No matter how many times I click the lottery widget the "enter lottery" button just doesn't show up for me to click on.

Anonymous said...

"Does anyone know why the lottery widget doesn't function anymore?"

They disabled it while they were migrating over the European servers. They have said they will re-enable the lotteries once everything with the migration is complete.

Ajay said...

Lunatuna and Tawariel, both of you planning to come back for the expansion?

KevGhost said...

Thanks for this fantastic guide about LOTRO <3

Jon Andrist said...

I spotted at least one of you posting on the LotrO forums recently. Any chance you're going to do some data updates for things like the LI spender and Virtue Finder for RoI? Hope you're all doing well, and enjoying your playtime wherever that may be!

Tawariel said...

Hi Jon - great to hear from you. I've been playing very casually for a couple weeks now, but still working a full time job with long trips abroad (India).

Looking at the tools, I don't see how I'd be able to swing any updates for this release. In particular, I would have loved to update the tools in my spare time - especially the two you mention. But, I didn't have access to the closed beta and there was no open beta this time around.

It's a gargantuan task to do the data collection for LI Spender, and quite impractical on without beta access. We do it the manual way: level every class to 70 and 75, ID and level dozens of LIs per class at those two levels.

For Virtue Finder it sounds like a lot of deeds are changing, and I'm not sure how I'd go about collecting the data for those now. In the past, we inspected our main toons, which between them had completed all of the deeds. Now, I guess, you'd need to level a brand new character. Doable, sure, but it could be months before we had all the data.

Ajay said...

Hey Tawariel! I've been to India myself to visit family, but not often. Anyways, nice to hear from you. Keeping up to date with LOTRO can be tricky, especially with the many changes RoI has. If you or Lunatuna decide to go ahead with some website updates, we'll be here to help.
