Forochel is the frozen north of LOTRO - vast frozen expanses surrounding a frigid bay. Unlike Evendim, you won't be swimming in this water: it's so cold that more than few seconds immersed will kill you. Even some of the foes you battle here have frost effects that require standing by a fire to dispel. The local inhabitants, the Lossoth, are quite chilly as well. Outsiders must earn faction with the Lossoth just to be considered of Neutral standing.

Questing in Forochel is quite good at level 44, with a good concentration of quests in Kauppa-Kohta. After that, the quests are still plentiful but spread out. Many of the quest lines are solo with a small fellowship quest at the end. Forochel gives the feeling of isolation, which will appeal to some players and not others. Try to complete 20 quests for a rank of Empathy, then switch to Angmar, Misty Mountains or Eregion is this isn't your cup of tea.

Control Points

One feature of Forochel to be aware of are Control Points. When controlled by the Gauradain, the map icon for the control point is red. You must clear all the aggro NPCs before they respawn to turn the control point "blue". Lossoth will replace the Gauradain and offer repeatable faction quests. These quests are not very helpful for leveling, but if you are interested in earning Lossoth of Forochel faction for stable routes, the Forochel horse or other rewards, these make the rep grind much easier. Visiting all four control points completes the Battle for Forochel deed which rewards a rank of Wisdom.
