Haudh Iarchith: The Barrows of Bree-land

LOTRO Haudh Nogbenn
Revised for Update 2

Once a single larger instance, Haudh Iarchith, the Men of Bree reputation dungeon, has been broken up into 10 smaller barrows each with its own entrance. With so many smaller barrows it can be hard to both find them all and to know what you will find there. Maps to the rescue!

Update 2 Changes

One change to Haudh Iarchith was made for Update 2:
  • The minimum level for the Executioner of the Wicked deed will be lowered to 20, to be consistent with the other deeds in Haudh Iarchith. Currently, the minimum level for this deed is 38.

It's About the Rep

The main reason to go to Haudh Iarchith is to work on Men of Bree reputation. Starting at level 20, you can pick up daily quests from the Hunting Lodge in Bree. Between repeatable quests and the stacks of reputation barter items dropped by mobs in Haudh Iarchith, it is fairly easy to earn Kindred status by level 25 or so.

Other reasons to go:
  • Haudh Iarchith is a great place to pick up Tier 2 scholar components. You may even find a few Tier 3 nodes.
  • Epic Volume 1, Book 14, Chapter 9 (level 50) of the epic story sends you to Tomb of Maenadar.

Finding the Right Barrow

The maps below show the entrances to the various barrows that make up Haudh Iarchith. All are entered from either Norther or Southern Barrows Downs.

I never tried entering D and E, interesting. Fairly certain you can also enter the epic area via a portal near J. One of those portals, if I remember correctly, requires the appropriate quest for entering. Everything else checks out for me! If you want to add some extra info, for the ancient texts, Taradan has 2, Ringdor has 3, and Methernil has 1. Good job!

Please add the rotted barghest paws (level 45 quest for RK and captain) to your grid. I have toon who will be needing them very soon. Thanks in advance. This site just keeps getting better and better.

Ajay said...

Those paws didn't drop from any of the mobs in HI (including the high-level dungeon) during beta once the loot was adjusted. The barghest boss used to drop it, but doesn't anymore.

Marcos said...

That's correct; barghest paws, I believe, are dropped at Fornost. What I did manage to loot at Haudh Iarchith (specifically through entrance I) at the tomb of Maenadar, which contains level 45ish signature mobs, were the barbed barghest tails.

Anyone know the spawn rate for the named bosses? Found 4 fairly easily, but have yet to catch Gwigon and Umnen.

Anonymous said...

They are fixing the barghest issues and making them more 'across the board' level matched in the next patch.

Ajay said...

Yup, there are a few comments on the patch notes article on here regarding that.

Lunatuna said...

Confirmed spawn rate for bosses at 10 minutes.

Anonymous said...

At what level can you solo these instances?

Lunatuna said...

The minimum level for the quests is 20 and every mob in HI is also level 20, though some are signatures and elites. In general, the northern most barrows are the easiest and they get harder as you go south. You should be able to solo most of it by level 24, though I'd grab a friend or two for the bosses.

Really helpful -- mmorsel.com has become a wonderful resource for everything LOTRO. Your time and effort is very-much appreciated.

Are the deeds live? I can't find them in the deed log.

Lunatuna said...

The November Update hasn't gone live yet.

Anonymous said...

Any idea when the November update is going live? Rough estimate?

Anonymous said...

December

Lunatuna said...

Hehe, not December. They haven't announced a date yet. My magic 8-ball says November 16th, but it's not always right :)

Zelgius said...

I think your 8-ball is close. Mine says the 17th. Since that's a scheduled maintenance and the day they remove the festival stuff.

anyone know where i can find the majority of the barrow spirits?

Anonymous said...

looks like Goethem is the only spot besides HI... and HI wont let me in unless i have the quest? only 2 ghosts spawn in Goethem so its gonna take me forever

Lunatuna said...

HI should be letting you in - are you sure you are in the right spot?

Anonymous said...

yea it says i need the corresponding quest i just tried again

Anonymous said...

wonder if the GB zones count if there are any ghosts in there?

Anonymous said...

you need a quest to get into the instance at 35.1s, 55.3w, the entrance to the main HI instance is at 35.1s 55.1w which makes it slightly confusing

Lunatuna said...

I think the confusion here is that on Live now, the entrance to Tomb of Maenadar is inside one of the barrows named Haudh Iarchith. On Bullroarer, this barrow has been renamed Tomb of Maenadar, still with an inaccessible door inside. These changes should go Live in the November Update.

yes i figured it out before you posted (anon 135pm on nov 8th) was just stopping here to say there are two zones at the HI location. The one to the left is HI and to the right for some quest. Im glad that ghost deed was a pain in the butt.

Anonymous said...

worse is that brood-hunter deed, since only one instance has spiders and it seems to be the most crowded one...very glad to be finished with those finally, and thanks for the great maps, they helped a lot!

dunn said...

Anyone know the new loc of Unmen? He doesn't pop at the old place and all the others are on 10 min timers.

Ajay said...

Umnen does respawn in Barrow B as indicated on the table. Once you enter the barrow and go down the stairs, continue down the long passage, and then go up the stairs. Umnen will be in that area along with 2 or 3 other mobs. Those barrows are very popular at lower levels, so I recommend you stay there for a long period of time if you want to catch him.

Lunatuna said...

Yep, I saw him there when I confirmed the locations on Bullroarer.

dunn said...

Hmmm, better go back then. Spent hours in there, both with others around and also alone. Is he maybe on a longer timer than the rest then?

dunn said...

Btw, I am on EU, was he there on your first release build, which is the one we have right now?

binkley said...

Thank you so much! This is the only correct map I've found since HI was broken up into bits. Haudh Nogbenn I completely missed running around on my end-game guard -- and it's the one need for Brishzel to finish Executioners of the Wicked. Great post!

@lotro The November Update is launching on 11/29!

GreenDrag said...

OK... I need some help... Do the 4 slayer deeds have any restrictions on them (level, quest, account status (VIP/f2p))? Because I seem to be unable to start any of them...

Lunatuna said...

The deeds still start at level 37-39. They planned to fix it in the November Update, but the build currently on test still has the old levels. Bottom line, it might be fixed on Monday, it might not!

GreenDrag said...

Thanks... now at least I get the reason I don't have it yet... Luna, I hereby dub you my saved-my-life-once-but-not-yet-awesome-enough-for-my-mind-to-remember's list's new member...

on the lorebook it says exicutioner of the wicked is still 39..... i don't know though i have a lv 37 i gonna check it out.

Anonymous said...

I killed all six today at level 37 and the deed did not count, so probably it is still 39.

Houma said...

I'm going to confirm this. Executioner of the Wicked is still 39, did not get changed...

Ajay said...

Wow, how does that get missed... /bug it!

Is there also a chart to locate the NPC's who are giving you these quests for Men of Bree rep?

This site is AWESOME!!! Keep up the great job!

All of the quest givers stand in a group, outside the Bree Hunting Lodge in Bree-town (down the alley from the Auction House).

Anonymous said...

Awesome! I know that they gave some quests, but I'm glad to know that I don't have to chase anyone down and that they give all of the ones listed on this page. :)

Thanks for the help!

The correct location of The Tomb of Maenadar is 34.1S 55.0W.

Anonymous said...

Executioner of the Wicked opens at level 38 (completing the deed now on my level 38 champion).

Anonymous said...

It's getting deleveled in the next update to be in line with all the other Haudh Iarchith deeds as well.

Osdor said...

Thanks for this - perfect timing, as a bunch of new kin-members are about to hit level 20 and we're going to run them through HI a few times :)

ndc said...

@admin do you need maps for each barrow? I'm going through barrow downs right now and I'll try to remember to snap some screenshots of each barrow map.

Lunatuna said...

Thanks for the offer, ndc. I took screenshots of each barrow map when HI was originally broken up, but decided the guide doesn't need them. They just aren't that big. It's good to leave some discovery to the player.

Was grinding for Bree Rep trinkets last night with my lvl Burg and noticed that while the scholar nodes are tier 2 & 3 at best, the the Mobs in Haudh Iarchith drop tier 5 scholar mats.

Please understand that the drop rate isn't great, but at the same time, isn't bad either. Just not as efficient as other ways of getting tier 5 mats. But for toons that are below lvl 40, this is the best way to farm your tier 5 mats.

Lunatuna said...

I would say for characters below 35, this is the best way to farm tier 5 scholar mats. At 35, you can easily gather mats at Barad Morlas in Eregion. Sure, the mobs are +15 levels to you, but are easily avoided. And the red isn't red.

Phreakstar said...

Thanks for the tip Luna...Now my tier 5 mastery won't be such a grind anymore.

Chris said...

What quest do you need to get into J and where do you get it?

A.E. said...

I would also add a notation for the barrow entrance southeast of H on your map...that it brings you outside the barrows in Bree-land. It's not necessarily any faster to Bree, but I do use that instead of coming in from West Bree if I'm running the quests in that area.

so can you find barrow-brie for the: The Unwise deed in any of those?
