Volume III, Book 2 unfolds in 15 chapters, all soloable, and features a new public dungeon and a session play chapter. There are also some interesting rewards you should be aware of. We won't spoil it for you much, but beware - Minas Elendur map enclosed!
Where to Start
Volume III, Book 2 starts with Elrond in the Last Homely House in Rivendell. Some Rewards to Consider
Epic books usually have some special rewards, and Volume III, Book 2 is no exception:- Most of the chapters award Grey Company reputation, and Item XP. Later chapters also award Enedwaith barter items.
- Chapter 4 includes an enigmatic reward among the choices: Erebrandir's Horseshoe. We don't know what this does (if anything), and the devs aren't saying.
- Chapter 5 offers the Numenorean Uruk-slayer weapon title among the reward choices. You can barter for this title in Enedwaith too.
- Chapter 7 awards a Scroll of Empowerment, and chapter 11 awards a Scroll of Delving.
- Chapter 8 awards a spiffy teal helm, and chapter 15 awards nice teal pants. Neither have radiance but otherwise the stats are quite respectable for a level 65 player.
New Public Dungeon: Minas Elendur + Delotham
Chapters 6 and 7 send you into a pair of instances that form a new public dungeon in Eregion (48.6S, 6.5W). Minas Elendur is a multi-level zone that sits directly above Delotham. Except for the entrance, every door here takes you to the other zone. And there are lots of doors! The epic story asks you to find treasure coffers and kill uruks. There's also an optional exploration deed here, "Exploration from Top to Bottom". You'll likely find most of the 23 points-of-interest while completing chapter 7. A few of the points are hidden away in spots that can only be reached from a specific door (in the other zone, of course). It's a puzzle! The following map provides a spoiler, if you need a little help finding those last couple of points.

Really cool insights! Thanks for the map pics too! I can't wait to get in there and get my adventurin on.
I'm also very curious about that horseshoe. Just got it in beta on my tavern character. I'm thinking that it has to increase luck somehow. Luck could equate to increased quality of drops and/or simply a higher chance of a better roll for loot in fellowships.
A reasonable test would be to repeat one skirmish over and over, with and without the shoe, to test quality of loot (stat tomes, marks, etc.). That would take quite a bit of dedication! (and not suggesting you do that unless you are REALLY curious heh).
Lots of folks tested it in Beta and the only confirmable effect I could determine was some people swore by it and others thought it did nothing. IMO, it was added to the game to boost stat tome sales in the store. If you can replace the stats from your pocket item, you can leave the horseshoe equipped all the time... just in case. Mind you, I have no factual basis for my opinion :)
The devs have confirmed that the horseshoe does SOMETHING that is testable and verifiable. Honestly though, that could just mean that it gives you a buff icon (which says the same thing as the shoe itself).
From my experience, it does nothing to increase loot drops(over 100 great barrows runs, and both stat tomes I've found were without the shoe). If I had to guess, I would say it's a fun item designed to cause the kind of rampant speculation that has been spreading about it.
I still think it's fun though, and I'll probably carry it for a long time.
I feel that the horseshoe is just a virtual representation of the same thing that a horseshoe represents in real life -- the "feeling" that something is a good luck charm. It's a social experiment, showing that the "possession" of something, be it tactile as a solid mass or ephemeral as a data stream, can represent something more than its existence alone suggests.
Great map and overview. I don't know about that horseshoe. I don't think you get better loot from chests, which seems to be initial speculation probably due to the increased numbers of symbols that have been dropping, but it seems to me unrelated.
The only thing, I have noticed is better luck on rolls. I roll an 80+ more often with it equipped. Not confirmed yet, but suspected.
I thought it also may increase the rolls on loot. That actually wouldn't be too hard to test as well. Truly random rolls should have an average close to 50, assuming you have a large quantity of loot rolls.
The easiest way to test is to head off to an area with lower level mobs that drop hides. Remove the majority of your equipment to eliminate any possible influences from other equipped items. Then, keep taking down mobs, rolling on the hides, and recording / logging the results.
