Harvestmath, the LOTRO fall festival, starts October 19th and runs through November 15th. We love the seasonal festivals, they offer a great break from leveling and other activities, and this one promises to be a doozy. New this year is The Haunted Burrow, a special treat left for us by Bilbo Baggins!
Festival Quick Start
The Fall Festival is live! You will receive a mail in-game that starts the first festival quest, though it takes a while for the server to deliver the mail to everyone. Some quick tips:
- Everyone can participate in the festival - you only need to have complete the Introduction.
- Activities can be found in the The Shire at the Party Tree, Bree-land at the Festival Grounds and Ered Luin at Duillond and Thorin's Hall.
- You'll need the Basic Riding Skill to participate in the horse races. If you win a festival horse, be sure to purchase a regular horse if you don't already own one. You'll save nearly 2g on the cost of the “Document of Horse Ownership” from Hengstacer farm in Bree-land.
- Inn League and Ale Association quests can only be advanced during a seaonal festival.
Painted Skeleton Horse
The Painted Skeleton Horse is a quest reward and doesn't require you to shell out coin before you can ride it. However, you do need the Basic Riding Skill and a whole bunch of luck to get the rare Aged Deed from the Poorly Hidden Chest in the Haunted Burrow. The chest can only be looted once per day.

Regarding the painted skeleton horse, is that only looted once per day per server? Thanks in advance,
It's certainly more than one per server each day. I've seen at least two on Riddermark already.
Just a quick note, we did enough testing in beta to confirm that you can pick up the aged deed if you don't have riding, so you just have to pick it up to use the horse :) (Ie, invest in it if your toon doesn't have it before the festival ends if you get this awesome drop!)
Nice post and site, I check it everyday, its very useful, just awesome.
I have a problem with the race. I've done it once (a day ago) and then today I went and the NPC said under the "Pending quests" title... "Nameofthequest (Retry) 1M". I left and thought that I'd be corrected later, but it still says the same. Any idea?
I don't have any Festival quest in the Quest log... I don't know what to do.
Thanks in advance!
Huh, not sure. Have you tried both horse races? Michel Delving and Bree Festival Grounds? If you are VIP, I'd file a ticket.
It was my bad. I thought that after losing in each Race Field, I had to go back to the NPC under the Party Tree, but I just had to go to the Fields again and try. I got my mount :D
Thanks anyway!
Is the Skeleton Horse BoA?
Yes, the horse and the quest starter "Aged Deed" are both BOA.
I'm a new f2p so could you tell me where to get that aged deed or how. Any one have tips on how to win that horse race? I can't seem to cross both the obstacle bridge. I could cross one but not both so is there a 'line' I could take to not get the speed penalty if I miss the bridge?
Read the Painted Skeleton Paragraph in this article for info on the Aged Deed.
Re the horse race, I find I can win if I get the speed BOOST from successfully crossing the plank overs just one of the two puddles. Even with the speed PENALTY from the other puddle its enough to win.
It is possible to win the race, even if stuck in the mire twice, but you have to take the best line! However, the speed boost definitely helps :)
